Resident Relocation FAQs

How Soon Do I Have To Move?

Residents in Phase 1 have all been properly notified, and individual meetings with families were held with the Relocation Specialist to determine family needs. We expect to begin offering families unit transfers as soon as August 2024.

Am I Required To Move?

Yes, renovations and MANDATORY and PERMANENT transfers per the Admissions and Continued Occupancy Policy. These transfers take priority over new applicants. The Relocation Specialist will work with Occupancy to offer a unit that meets your family's needs. They will also try to meet one of your top three preferred HACG properties if available. Residents will not be returning to the same unit as this is a permanent transfer.

Do I Have To Stay In Public Housing?

No, you may choose to move out of public housing. However, you will be responsible for finding your own housing. You will still be eligible for moving expenses and assistance with moving your belongings. The HACG is committed to assisting every family with their move regardless of if they choose to stay within our properties or move elsewhere out of public housing.

Will HACG Pay For My Moving Expenses?
Yes, HACG will pay for:

  • $100 will be given to the head of household to cover incidentals.
  • Fees related to reconnection of a landline phone, internet, and cable TV as long as the utilities were active in the name of the head of household or adult on the lease.

Will HACG Pay For Moving My Belongings?

Yes, HACG will pay for a moving company contracted with HACG to provide boxes, pack your belongings, and move them to your new unit. They will not unpack your items for you. You may also choose to pack and/or move your belongings yourself. However, no additional incidentals will be given. Please note that the moving company may refuse to move you if your unit does not pass the housekeeping inspection.
